UNC sticks to 'roll back districts' stand

Senapati, July 26 2019: The 'Council Assembly' of the United Naga Council (UNC) discussed with "all seriousness" and reiterated its previous demand and decision that the 7 districts created by the Manipur Government on December 8, 2016 be rolled back.

This was one of the many resolutions taken during the meeting on Thursday.

The 'Council Assembly' of the UNC was held at Bena village (Thonglang Akutpa) in Senapati district along IT Road on July 25 .

The programme was hosted by Liangmai Naga Council (LNC).

The resolution on district creation issue was the reaffirmation of the 'Council Assembly' of the UNC held at Kapaam village, Chandel district on November 10, 2018 .

The July 25, 2019 meeting of the UNC then endorsed the 'Presidential Council' meeting resolution of May 4, 2019 held at Ukhrul headquarters that the "tripartite talks" on district creation issue will continue.

The 'assembly' of the UNC also reaffirmed that it will continue to support the "hard earned historic Indo-Naga Framework Agreement" signed on August 3, 2015 in New Delhi.

The meeting also urged both the negotiating parties to bring the talk to a logical conclusion at the earliest.

The 'Council Assembly' of the UNC then expressed its "fullest and solid support to the Collective Leadership and its political principle" .

The 'assembly' of the UNC "seriously" discussed and reaffirmed earlier resolutions such as the Naga people will not accept the existing international boundary pillars erected between India and Myanmar as they were erected without the knowledge and consent of the "indigenous" Naga people.

"All the boundary pillars should be reviewed and resurveyed and re-demarcated", it added.

It may be noted here that the UNC in its 'Presidential Council' meeting held on August 13, 2018 at Thangal General Ecological Park, Myangkhang in Senapati district took this resolution.

The July 25, 2019 'Council Assembly' of the UNC reaffirmed it.

Meanwhile, at the Bena village (Thonglang Akutpa) 'Council Assembly', the UNC inducted R Stoneson of Makui village as vice president of the UNC, Puanthanpou Gonmei of Tamenglong as assistant general secretary, A Athili Kayina of Tadubi as finance secretary, H Khuba Peter of Maram Centre as Art and Culture secretary and Kh Paul Chothe of Purum Chumbang village as assembly secretary.
