TYCM urges Government to fill vacant posts

Imphal, September 24 2026: The Tribal Youth Council Manipur has urged the Government to fill vacant posts in the Directorate of Tribal Affairs & Hills, Tribal Research Institute (TRI), and the Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Ltd (MTDC) .

In a statement, the TYCM said that the shortage of manpower in the department and institutions has adversely affected and delayed the implementation of developmental programmes and impeded the overall development of the tribal communities.

While the Directorate of Tribal Affairs & Hills Department has a sanctioned strength of 138 posts, there are only 38 staff at present, leaving 100 posts vacant, it said.

While the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) has a sanctioned strength of 33 staff/employees, there are only 13 employees at present, leaving 20 posts vacant.

Similarly, the Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Ltd (MTDC) has dozens of vacant posts yet to be filled, it added.

While the Government has recently taken steps to hold recruitment to fill various vacant posts in other departments, it has neglected the tribal related department and institutions, said the TYCM.

It alleged that Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, who is also the Minister of Tribal Affairs & Hills has failed to raise the matter or take up steps to fill the vacant posts.

The Government's slogan that it will bring equal development to both the valley and hills can only be fulfilled when it fills the vacancies and ensures the smooth functioning of the Department of the Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills and the tribal institutions, said the TYCM, cautioning of public agitation in case no positive actions are taken up to address the issue.
