Imphal, September 22 2026:
Banks across the State are expected to remain closed for three days as they join a proposed Nationwide bank stir from September 28 to 30 .
The stir is being launched under the United Forum of Bank Unions, a conglomerate of seven bank unions, AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF and INBOC .
The United Forum of Bank Unions has been pressing for a five-day work week, restoration of the Old Pension Scheme and other demands.
While the union has reaffirmed that it could go on strike from September 28, if it goes ahead with it, bank branches may remain closed for 5 days straight from September 26 .
September 26 being the second Saturday of the month is a bank holiday, and September 27 falls on a Sunday.
The State Level Bankers' Committee in a statement said it recommends customers complete their banking transactions well before the date of the strike and use ATMs and internet banking facilities, YONO and other digital modes for transactions on strike days.
