Following the press note of the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) that appeared two days ago, the units of the All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) from the districts of Ukhrul, Senapati and Chandel have come out with a joint statement that they did not participate in the recent ATSUM federal assembly at Tamenglong.
The Senapati District Students Association (SDSA), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and Naga Students Union Chandel (NSUC) said that as per resolutions of the ANSAM of September 24, 2007 and the January 10, 2008, and to honour these stands, they can never be a part of ATSUM unless an amicable solution is brought between ANSAM and the ATSUM.
This reactions of SDSA, TKS and NSUC have come following the press note of ATSUM appeared in local newspapers here on January 20 editions which had claimed that three units of the tribal students' body had attended the Tamenglong meeting.
The ATSUM press statement, however, did not mention the names of the three units.
SK Stephen of the NSUC, Peter Kuba of the SDSA and PR Jordan of the TKS (all of them are presidents of their respective students' body) in a joint statement, have said that they had not entrusted representatives from their organisations to participate in the ATSUM federal assembly at Tamenglong.
SDSA, TKS and NSUC have also said that in the interest and welfare of their respective district, they will fully co-ordinate and extend co-operation with
the ANSAM alone.
