Awareness programme on Women & Child Helpline held at Thoubal as part of BBBP

Thoubal, February 20 2025:
The District Programme Officer (DPO), ICDS, Cell, Thoubal under the supervision of the District Administration Thoubal today organised an awareness campaign on the helpline numbers on women and child as part of the 10 years celebration of the "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" (BBBP) scheme at Malom Mamang, Khoirom Sector.
The scheme is an initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) which completed 10 years on 22nd January, 2025 .
During the programme, the resource persons highlighted the importance of Women Helpline number 181 which is a toll-free 24-hour telecom service.
This service is made available to women affected by violence seeking support and information.
Further, awareness was given on Child Helpline number 1098, which is also a toll-free 24-hour emergency number that can be called by children in need of care & protection or by concerned adults.
Awareness was also given regarding the BBBP scheme by the officials of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Cell, Thoubal.
The attendees of the function were informed that the scheme "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" which means 'save the girl child, educate the girl child' aims to educate citizens against gender bias and improve the efficacy of welfare services for girls.
It was made aware that the BBBP scheme also aims to bring behavioral changes in the society towards the birth and rights of a girl child ensuring gender equality and women empowerment, prevent gender-biased, sex-selective elimination, ensure survival & protection of the girl child, encourage education and participation of the girl child.
Apart from it, the general public were made aware regarding the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act, 1994 which prohibits sex selection before or after conception.
It was informed that the Act also regulates prenatal diagnostic techniques to detect genetic abnormalities, metabolic disorders and other conditions.
The programme was attended by Kh Sobha Singh, Adhyaksha Thoubal Zilla Parishad, Salam Kumar Singh Pradhan Leirongthel Ningel GP, Ningthoujam Parango Singh, DPO Thoubal and Dr Y Nokul Singh CMO Thoubal as dais member.
About 150 people including 101 adolescent girls were present at the function.
