Imphal, September 19 2025:
Reacting to a statement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he visited the State on September 13 that the displaced persons would be resettled at an "suitable site", the Meitei Society, Churachandpur has questioned what exactly did Narendra Modi's suitable site.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Meitei Society Churachandpur general secretary N Ramesh asked whether the Prime Minister's suitable site meant the IDPs original homes and native villages or did he meant relief camps and fabricated houses.
"Had the Prime Minister stated lucidly that the IDPs would be resettled at their original homes and native villages instead of speaking ambiguously which can be interpreted differently, we would have felt some relief', Ramesh said.
Contrary to the expectation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would announce something significant for the IPDs like they would be resettled at their native villages soon, the Prime Minister spoke in ambiguous terms and it only added to the IDPs' anxiety, he said.
Saying that the foremost desire of IDPs is resettlement at their native villages, Ramesh appealed to the Prime Minister, the Governor and other authorities concerned to take up concrete measures urgently so as to resettle IDPs at their native villages.
The Government must take up policies and programmes so that the IDPs whose lives have been devastated can once again live in peace, he urged.
