Student bodies allege, contradict each other DESAM decries detention of student

Imphal, August 19 2016 : DESAM has condemned the alleged detention of the CC Hr Sec School Students' Union finance secretary by a team of AMSU members for issuing a press release against disrupting the school's ongoing half-yearly examination of Class XII.

Speaking to mediapersons at their Keishampat office today, DESAM secretary general Nameirakpam Edison said that they cannot accept such acts of intimidating students for expressing their thoughts and opinions regarding events which occur within their schools.

CC Hr Sec School Students' Union finance secretary Moranthyel Saka who was also present at the press meet said that the second day of the half-yearly examination could not be completed as some students confiscated and tore the answer sheets and question papers yesterday.

Some students were raising an uproar exhorting fellow students to protest against the arrest of Khomdram Ratan and the exam was disrupted.

Saka said that he issued a press release together with the magazine secretary and debate and extension secretary.

Saka said that he went to New Checkon at around 11 am today to recharge his mobile balance but a team of AMSU volunteers rounded him up and took him to AMSU office within DM College campus.

There he was asked some questions.

Later, a police team arrived there followed by the warden of Kuljit Boys Hostel where he has been staying and he left the AMSU office.

Another Class XII student Hanglem Mohon said that around six AMSU volunteers came to Sumati Boys Hostel, Keishampat at around 2 pm today and they allegedly asked him to follow them to AMSU office.

Apart from snatching mobile phone, they allegedly pulled him by the wrist.

They left the scene as the house owner came out followed by the arrival of a police team.

Nonetheless, the AMSU team asked Mohon to come to their office.

N Edison said that they support the mass movement for protection of indigenous people but students should be allowed to study.

He then appealed to AMSU to stop their activities of targeting selected students.
