Imphal, December 17:
The surrendered militants in Manipur who were camped at the state Rehabilitation Centre for Surrendered Militants at Lamphel in Imphal West have today threatened to take up agitations if the state government does not induct them into active service.
Addressing a press conference in Imphal this morning, a spokesman on behalf of the surrendered militants said that the promises made by the government to provide them a sum of Rs 1.5 lacs each after getting training for three years has never been materialized till date.
There are around 20 ex-cadres of the banned militants including from Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), People's United Liberation Front (PULF), United National Liberation Front (UNLF), National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN), etc in the camp waiting for the assured package from the government.
Among other things, the spokesman said, the surrendered policy of the government also included imparting vocational trainings in driving, carpentry, etc to all surrendered militants.
He said, "even if we get those trainings, we feel unsecured to come out in the public and practise our jobs.
Since we are facing thorny problems regarding our lives securities, jobs other than joining active service would not fit us".
As such, he further said, the government must absorb them in the proposed 7th Indian Reserved Battalion, which is going to be set up soon.
Rokonicha resigns as MLA (Kohima): In what can be seen as an unexpected move for Congress Party, veteran politician and senior Congress MLA from 5 Ghaspani-II A/C under Dimapur district, Rokonicha has resigned from the membership of 10th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
He tendered his resignation to the Speaker of the House Monday morning which was later accepted.
However, on being contacted Congress Party sources revealed the Party office had not received Rokonicha's resignation letter and therefore the reasons behind his resigning could not be ascertained.
Meanwhile, interestingly political observers are of the view that Rokonicha might have resigned as he is also not likely to get Congress ticket for the ensuing State General Election following the resigning of K.Hollohon from both MLAship and active member of NPF.
Hollohon had earlier declared that to contest as an independent candidate from Ghapani-II A/C.
