The JAC constituted against the gang-rape of an u-morok trader has demanded that the culprits be awarded capital punishment.
The trial Court convicted four accused persons in the case on June 12 .
The Court will announce the quantum of punishment for these four persons in a sentence hearing on June 19 .
In a press conference held at the office Zeliangrong Union, Kakhulong, JAC Convenor Kakomlunglu Kamei and Spokesperson L Gyaneshwori said the u-morok trader, who hails from Nungleiband village of Tamenglong district, was gang raped by four persons including two IRB personnel at Irom Meijrao in the wee hours of March 22, 2012 .
With framing of charge sheets against the four accused, the Court has been undergoing trial from September 16 last year.
On June 12 this year, the Court convicted accused Laikhuram Rojit (25) s/o Tomba of Porompat JN Hospital Road under IPC Section 376 (Rape), 367 (Kidnapping), 25 (Armed Act), 324 (Grevious Hurt), 34 (Common Intention) and 392 (Robbery).
The three other accused - IRB Havildar Chungkham Ibomcha (37) s/o Shamu of Thongju Boroi Makhong, Salam Bijen (34) s/o Gourababu of Uripok Sorbon Thingel and IRB Rifleman Kshetrimayum Kenedy s/o Achou of Kongpal Chanam Leikai - were convicted under IPC Section 369 (Kidnapping), 392 (Robbery), 376 (Rape), and 34 (Common Intention) .
The JAC representatives said that the four persons must be given befitting punishment according to the Sections of IPC charged against them.
They must be given capital punishment, they demanded.
