A public meeting held at Wabagai Keithel Macha in Thoubal district today has unanimously endorsed re-introduction of the Inner Line Permit system as the only means to protect the identity and safeguard the interest of the indigenous people besides stopping influx of outsiders into Manipur.
The meeting was jointly organised by SEDO, CARD, WACAHI and Inner Line Permit Demand Committee, Kangleipak.
The proceeding of the meeting was held with SEDO president Pradip Mangang, CARD president MC Nonganba, ILP Demand Committee convenors Yumnamcha Dilipkumar and Sapamcha Jadumani, president of Thoubal District Women Development Organisation Thasana Leima and president of Ching-Tam United Women Association L Shantibala Leima as presidium members.
Co-convenor of ILP Demand Committee Joy Chingakham gave the key note address of the meeting during which Yumnamcha Dilipkumar, Sapamcha Jadumani, Subol Luwang and Kangleichal president Wahengbam Luwangleima Chanu spoke as resource persons.
After a serious deliberation on the issue of migrants, the meeting unanimously resolved that re-introduction of the Inner Line Permit system is the only mean of safeguarding the interest of the indigenous people and the planning family measures of the Government to limit the size of the family should not be adopted in view of the threat being posed by uninterrupted flow of outsiders into Manipur.
Apart from stopping the flow of outsiders, the meeting also felt that introduction of Inner Line Permit system would also held in generating the income of the State Government as taxes would be imposed and permission would be required for anybody who would like to visit Manipur.
Moreover, it would help in identifying the criminal elements from sneaking into Manipur, the meeting noted.
To give more teeth to the ongoing campaign, the meeting also endorsed formation of a Cabinet SubCommittee in this regard.
Last but not the least the meeting resolved that all the social organisations of the area would extend full support and co-operation to the ILP Demand Committee in the ongoing campaign for reintroduction of Inner Line Permit system in Manipur.
