Imphal, May 15: In denunciation of rise in prices of essential commodities and demand for efficiency of Public Distribution System among others, about 50 members of Communist Party of India (Marxist), manipur State Committee today picketed at the Godown of Food and Civil Supplies, Sangaiprou today.

During the picketing period from 12 noon till 2 pm entry and exit of FCS personnel as well as goods carriers from the godown were prevented, said a CPI (M) release.

A meeting was also held on the sideline of the picketing agitation wherein speakers strongly denounced inability of the Government concerned to check inflation besides drawing the attention of the Government to initiate appropriate measures to mitigate economic distress of the general public.

Other demands highlighted at the agitation include maintenance of status quo on PDS quota, check misuse/embezzlement of essential PDS items, increase State's PDS quota, equal share/quantum on sugar, rice and kerosine provision, procure rice from farmers at acceptable rate and check all forms of malpractices.
