Birth centenary of Laishram Samarendra observed at Kakching

Kakching, February 15 2026: The birth centenary celebration of noted writer Laishram Samarendra was held today at the auditorium hall of the Library and Information Centre, Kakching, located at Kakching Phoushupat Leikai.

The programme was organised by the Laishram Samarendra Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, in collaboration with Sahitya Seva Samiti, Kakching, and Eramdam Khorjei Apunba Lup, Hiyanglam Wabagai.

The event was attended by Sahitya Seva Samiti, Kakching, vice-president Mayanglambam Kunjakesho; Macha Chanu, Kakching, president Dr Nongmaithem Pramodini; and Laishram Samarendra Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, chairman Yengkhom Anilkumar, as presidium members.

At the function, Convenor of the Celebration Committee, Saratchandra Thiyam delivered the keynote address.

The programme commenced with the offering of floral tributes to the portrait of late Laishram Samarendra.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ningombam Nando recalled the life and legacy of Samarendra, highlighting his literary works and his significant contributions to the society and the people.

The event also featured a poetry reading session, in which various writers, poets and students participated, paying homage to the celebrated writer through their recitations.
