Imphal, September 14 2025:
The National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO) opened its two-day silver jubilee celebration at its Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai office yesterday.
Observance of two-minute silence in honour of all those who laid down their lives in safeguarding the integrity of Manipur marked the opening of the function.
NIPCO president Oinam Premjit, NIPCO advisor Sunil Karam, United People's Front (UPF) president Nongthombam Rupa-chandra, Manipur Peace and Identity Council (MAPI Council) president KC Romeo and CADA president Hijam Priyokumar attended the function as presidium members.
Speaking at the gathering, Oinam Premjit said that the Prime Ministers visit did not bring anything worthwhile for the valley people except for inauguration of some projects which have been already completed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned his eyes away from Manipur when the people of the State needed him the most.
The Prime Minister came but it was too late, he said.
People are not sure whether Modi's visit would bring peace and harmony or herald a new phase of turmoil, Premjit said.
Had Narendra Modi visited Manipur in time, NIPCO and the people of Manipur would have accorded him a warm welcome.
"His visit was too late and we don't like it", Premjit continued.
He alleged that the Government of India has been continuously fanning the tension instead of working sincerely to bring an end to the protracted crisis.
He also pointed out the Central Government's abject failure to ensure free movement on National Highways.
It seems that the rule of law is applied only in the valley areas.
A small number of arms which were in the possession of Meiteis for self defence have been recovered by the Government but the Kuki people are still allowed to wield all kinds of weapons including sophisticated ones.
As a result, Kukis have been attacking Meitei farmers with firearms every now and then, Premjit said.
He also denounced the renewal of SoO agreement by the Central Government for a term of one year in spite of repeated appeals and vehement demand from different sections of the society to abrogate the agreement.
