Imphal, October 13: The Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has celebrated its 8th foundation today with a simple function at its head office.

On the occasion, the president of the student body recalled the activities undertaken by MSF for the welfare of student community and the people of Manipur at large.

He also sketched out other activities scheduled to be taken by MSF in future.

The celebration opened with the hoisting of flag at the MSF office premises remained a low key affair in view of its 5 volunteers being lodged in jail in connection with the agitation undertaken by MSF to ensure regular classes to aided college students.

Speaking on the occasion, MSF president S Sanjoy declared that MSF would fight relentlessly against any initiative taken up by the Government that may affect the academic atmosphere of students.

He recalled that MSF undertook sustain agitation for more than three months against the State authority demanding regular classes to the students of aided colleges.

Condemning the abrupt termination of 466 part time lecturers, Sanjoy urged the State Government to ensure proper education to the students before the issue blows out to become a momentous one.

He asked the State Government to frame a long term policy to solve the issue for good.

Asserting that MSF has been struggling against human rights violation by security forces and continued imposition of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 in Manipur, the president pledged that MSF would participate as front runners in all the future campaigns of the people against the draconian Act.

He further announced that the 'Let's learn properly' (Eikhoi lairik ninghtina tamshi) campaign launched by MSF in February this year would be resumed in different parts of the State after it was suspended for some time.

Sanjoy also recalled of the drive undertaken by MSF to ensure kerosene oil available to public at its normal rate of Rs 10 per litre when the commodity was hard to get at even Rs 40 per litre.

The MSF president clarified that its drive to evict male vendors from Ima Keithel was undertaken to preserve the age old uniqueness of the market.

Its drive against immoral and improper restaurants was taken up taking into account of the high prevalence of HIV in the State.

It was aimed at bringing home the real meaning of restaurants to the owners and propeiters.

Reminding that MSF had appealed to the school principals and guardians to check use of cell phones by students yet to cross 10+2 level, Sanjoy reiterated that MSF would continue prohibition of cell phone use by these students.

He added the student body would further ban use and sale of polythene bags in the State.
