Imphal, August 13 2025:
The Thadou Students' Association (TSA) has firmly and unequivocally condemned the recent actions and inflammatory statements made by Kaiminthang Thangew, Chief of the Kuki Liberation Army/Kuki Liberation Organisation (KLA/KLO), in the aftermath of the "Road to Peace - Covenant of Understanding" meeting held at Imphal on August 6, 2025 between Thadou Inpi Manipur and various Manipur Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
It has come to the knowledge of the TSA that Thangew issued a diktat to the Kuki Inpi Assam and the Kuki Students' Organisation, Assam (KSO-A), directing them to convene an emergency public consultative meeting at Songpijang Community Hall, Haflong, on August 11, 2025.Furthermore, Thangew compelled various Thadou chiefs who are not Kukis, under duress, to attend the said meeting, and accordingly, they participated out of fear.
During his address, Thangew incited and instigated Kuki subscribers in Dima Hasao district by declaring that five innocent Thadou leaders from Assam who attended the Imphal Peace Meeting would be subjected to the customary ritual "Salamsat" as a form of penalty before the Kuki Inpi Assam.
Such an act is completely illegal, illegitimate, and utterly unacceptable to the Thadou people, said a press release issued by the TSA.
The TSA then reiterated that the Thadou community is entirely distinct from the Kuki community and is neither part of it nor subordinate to it in any manner.
Thadou Inpi Assam, including its units in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong, is fully independent and not under the control or influence of Kuki Inpi Assam, Kuki SoO groups, or any associated militantorganisation.
No participant of the Thadou Inpi Manipur Road to Peace initiative from among the Thadous of Assam will perform any "Salamsat" ritual to Kuki Inpi Assam, regardless of threats, intimidation, or pressure from Kuki supremacists, it asserted.
The TSA has also asked the Thadou public not to be deceived or misled by any propaganda or false claims to the contrary.
"We further emphasise that this is not the first instance of Kuki Inpi Assam, KLA/KLO, and individuals such as Mr Thangew engaging in acts of interference in Thadou affairs.
It is also pertinent to note that the stopping of the Hun-Thadou Cultural Festival, 2025 in Guwahati was carried out under the direction of Mr Thangew.
Such repeated intrusions are unacceptable, unwarranted, and detrimental to peaceful coexistence", it said.
It also appealed to Kuki Inpi Assam, KLA/KLO, and all related entities to refrain from any interference in Thadou interests, matters, or internal affairs.
The TSA further demanded immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the statements and actions made on August 7, 2025 by the Kuki supremacists, and called upon the Government to take prompt and decisive action to ensure justice and fairness.
