Workshop on 'Human Trafficking' conducted

A one-day district level workshop on Human Trafficking' was held today at Hotel Lakeview, Moirang Lamkhai organised by New Life Foundation, Manipur.
The workshop was graced by New Life Foundation Manipur general secretary Dr L Pishak; Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel Imphal, Advocate P Premchand; OC Moirang W Romi and Child Welfare Committee Bishnupur Chairperson Kh Rebati Raman as the presidium members.
During the workshop, the resource persons gave valuable inputs on human trafficking by delivering lectures on the topics such as 'Legal framework and Anti human trafficking legislation', 'Law enforcement response to human trafficking', 'Role of CWC in Protecting Child Rights', 'Role of civil society organizations (CSOs) to combat and prevent human trafficking' .
Addressing the gathering, Dr L Pishak highlighted the impacts of human trafficking which is considered to be one of the most lucrative businesses across the globe affecting the vulnerable sections of the society in particular.
He maintained that it is a humongous task to fight against human trafficking since a number of risks are involved including life threats upon the witnesses and the stronghold of influential people involved in this business.
Raising grave concern that human trafficking cases are on a rise in Manipur, Dr L Pishak underscored the need of sensitizing the masses about this serious crime which abuses one's fundamental rights and freedom.
