Governor Dr Ashwani Kumar visits Ukhrul

Ukhrul, September 12 2013: People of Ukhrul district accorded a warm reception to the State Governor, Dr Ashwani Kumar, along with his better half Chandan Ashwani and local MLAs during a visit to the district yesterday at Circuit House Conference Hall here.

The Governor, who spoke to the press, said his intention in visiting the district was to interact with the people and understand their problems.

He said he is reaching to all hill areas of Manipur and Nagaland.

The first citizen of the State, Dr Ashwani Kumar, who is also the Governor of Nagaland, was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Preshaw Shimray and Parliamentary Secretary, Victor Keishing and other officials.

The Governor and his team inspected the 50 bedded district hospital at Hungpung which is under construction.

The Governor also inspected the old district Hospital constructed in 1976.He interacted with the patients of General ward, Female ward and Children ward.

Dr Ashwani also held a special meeting at the hospital conference hall wherein the CMO, Ng Raikhan submitted a memorandum to the Governor drawing his immediate attention to the various shortages of the district health care centre including encroachment of its land.

The first citizen of the State had an interaction with the public of the district, DLOs and importantly rescued kids from Jaipur Children Home at the Circuit House Conference Hall.

The District Congress Committee submitted a memorandum to the Governor seeking his intervention to the purported exchange of Choro village of Ukhrul district to Myanmar with a land at Moreh in Chandel district.

Other plights highlighted by the DCC included BRGF work in Ukhrul, extension of SBI at Ukhrul Town, improvement of Ukhrul � Jessami road and swift expedition of sport complex construction at Ukhrul.

Meanwhile, the Ukhrul Executive Council had also handed over a memorandum urging for immediate construction of road from New Heaven to Lamlang Gate.

Interestingly, in spite of the high-profile VVIP visit in the District, the district was blackout throughout the visit.

Significantly, none of the Tangkhul Frontal Organisation representatives were seen during the interaction session.

The Governor left for Jessami and Phek in neighbouring Nagaland.
