Chandel, October 11 2026:
The residents of Machi village in Chandel district have sought the attention of the authorities concerned to take up measures to address the deplorable condition of the village.
The villagers raised their grievances during a one-day discussion programme held under the theme 'Peaceful Coexistence' on welfare aspects of Machi and surrounding villages at Machi community hall.
The discussion programme was jointly organised by United Peoples' Front (UPF), National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO), Manipur Peace and Integrity (MAPI) Council and Machi and Neighbouring Village Authority.
Speaking at the programme, Machi village Chairman M Vosco Maring highlighted that the village is lacking in almost every aspect of development.
He expressed concern that the Machi Primary Health Centre which is located around four to five kilometres away from the village has not been functioning properly depriving the villagers of proper medical treatment.
He said, 'The doctors and nurses who are supposed to work 24x7 have been irregular and are not coming to Machi PHC timely' .
Stating that medical emergencies are unpredictable in nature and can occur at any moment, he questioned where will the villagers go for medical treatment since the PHC remains closed on Sundays.
He also noted that the doctors and nurses of the PHC have raised complaints earlier regarding irregular power supply and absence of accommodation facilities for the staff.
The Chairman of the village sought immediate attention of the Health Department and the Government to look into the malfunctions of the health centre where the staff have not been coming regularly owing to its isolated location.
He urged the authorities concerned to address the issue at the earliest to ensure that Machi villagers get proper and timely medical treatment.
Additionally, he urged the Government to look into the deplorable condition of the village school building which is on the verge of collapse.
UPF president Nongthombam Rupachandra; NIPCO president Oinam Premjit; MAPI Council president KC Romio; Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) president Hijam Priyokumar; UPF advisor Khomdram Ratan and leaders of the nearby villages also attended the programme among others.
