Imphal, October 11:
The All Manipur Restaurant Association (AMRA) has launched clean up drive against defaulting restaurants and cafes in the State since yesterday, informed a press release issued by AMRA.
During the drive, many restaurants were found with faulty room and seat arrangements and non-standard layouts.
In total disregard to the guidelines intimated earlier, a number of restaurants were found laying less than seven seats in a room and using double seats while some were found using single seats but without arms.
The AMRA statement informed that the proprietor of these restaurants/cafes were intimated earlier with enough time to rearrange the rooms of their restaurants and seat layouts.
During the clean-up drive, the proprietors and the customers were given awareness on the importance of the campaign to clean-up restaurants in line with the precise literal of the word 'restaurant' and to erase the notorious and immoral image now associated with the restaurants/cafes in Manipur.
Moreover, the proprietors were also given further time to rectify themselves and rearrange the structure of their restaurants while keeping them close in the meanwhile, informed the statement.
However, if these restaurants/cafes are found again with faulty seat arrangements unfit for a restaurant, the concerned proprietors and customers found in the next round of drive would be given befitting punishment including publication of their names in media along with photographs, it cautioned.
Informing that two separate lists of restaurants under two different categories classified as white and black would be published after completion of the drive, AMRA also appealed for help from people to make the campaign a success, added the statement.
