Shija Hospitals supports kidney transplant at AGMC and GBP Hospital, Tripura

Imphal, September 10 2025: Shija Hospitals and Research Institute supported the Agartala Government Medical College and GB Pant Hospital in completing their fourth successful kidney transplant.

As per a release issued by Shija Hospitals, the critical transplant procedure was carried out through the combined efforts of a team of experts from both institutions.

From Shija Hospitals, Urology and Transplantation Surgeons Dr Somorendro Paonam and Dr Mahele Maharabam, along with Anesthesiologist Dr Kajal Momin and Dr Gayatri S Pillai, assisted in the surgery.

The support team included operating theatre nurses, an operating theatre technician, and Santosh Thokchom, Deputy Manager, Business Development, Shija Hospitals.

The recipient was a 23-year-old male patient, and the donor was his 45-year-old mother.

Both the donor and recipient are reported to be in stable and healthy condition following surgery and remain under medical supervision.

Shija Hospitals expressed gratitude to Agartala Government Medical College, GB Pant Hospital, and the Government of Tripura for their collaboration.

It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Agartala Government Medical College through training and knowledge sharing to enable independent kidney transplantation in Tripura.

Since 2016, Shija Hospitals has contributed to kidney transplantation in the Northeast and remains dedicated to improving access to advanced renal care in the region.
