The United Committee Manipur (UCM) and All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) have announced that the Great June Uprising Unity Day will be commemorated at Kekrupat on June 18 .
Speaking to the media at Lamphelpat today, UCM secretary general Shanta Nahakpam said that the 24th edition of the Great June Uprising Unity Day will be organised by UCM and AMUCO.
He said that the decision to hold the event was taken during a joint meeting of AMUCO and UCM held on May 19 last.
Shanta said that June 18, 2001, will always be etched in Manipur's memory, marking the day when people united to safeguard the State, resulting in the tragic loss of 18 lives.
He stated that AMUCO and UCM are aware of the situation in Manipur, but deemed it crucial to commemorate the Great June Uprising Unity Day given its profound significance in Manipur's history.
The memorial of the 18 martyrs at Kekrupat will undergo cleaning from tomorrow onwards, he said, appealing to all civil society organizations, youth clubs, Meira Paibi lups, and individuals to participate in the event and make it a success.
AMUCO secretary general Leishangthem Pratap emphasized that commemorating the June 18 event is crucial to reaffirm a strong resolve to protect Manipur's unity and integrity, while also raising awareness among the younger generation about the historic event.
He appealed to the people of Manipur, across all communities, to participate in the event and stand united for a strong Manipur.
Additionally, he also requested CSOs and individuals to volunteer in cleaning Kekrupat.
