RS MP urges people to support TB-free India campaign

Rajya Sabha MP A Sarda Devi has urged the people of Manipur to cooperate with the Government's initiative to make India tuberculosis-free.
The Directorate of Health Services and the National TB Elimination Programme, National Health Mission, Manipur, today organised the launch of the JOSH Team under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at Classic Grande, Chingmeirong.
During the programme, Uchiwa in Imphal West district and Langmeithet in Thoubal district were recognised as TB Mukt villages.
Certificates and mementoes were presented to representatives of the two villages.
Addressing the function as chief guest, Sarda said the Government of India has been carrying out a campaign to eliminate tuberculosis since 2014 .
A similar campaign is also being undertaken in Manipur by the Directorate of Health Services and the National Health Mission, Manipur, she said.
Saying that tuberculosis is curable, the MP appealed to the people to seek timely diagnosis and complete the prescribed course of treatment.
She also said that two villages in two districts of Manipur have been certified as tuberculosis-free villages.
Sarda further said that she had helped three individuals, two from Yaiskul and one from Chairel in Kakching district, receive treatment and recover from tuberculosis.
Saying that TB patients should never be stigmatised, she said they should instead be treated with care, compassion and support.
The programme was also attended by Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Sumant Singh, Health Director Dr N Hemantakumar and State Mission Director of NHM, Manipur Dr M Dinesh.
