School committee mulls legal action

Imphal, September 07 2011: Managing committee of Modern High School located at Mayang Imphal IB Road has announced its decision of taking the help of law if the former headmaster of the school Phulindro fails to repay for the school properties taken away by him within a week's time.

Addressing a press conference in this connection at the school campus today, secretary of the managing committee Wangjam Ibopishak said Phulendro was posted to the school in 2007 and the committee entrusted him with the responsibility of improving the standard of the school.

However, instead of bringing about any development, Phulendro took away school properties like tables, chairs and two computer sets.

By 2010, the school has degraded to such an extent that instead of admitting students, the school building has been converted into a pig sty, Ibopishak said.

RTI activist Th Sanjit, who was also present during the press conference, pointed out that in addition to misusing the school properties, Phulendro had also pocketed a sum of Rs 78,650 meant for Pre-Matric scholarship to be provided among 201 students under MOBC for the period 2008-09 .

He was also trying to pocket another sum of Rs 2,93,900 meant for providing scholarship to 691 students for the period 2009-10 .

All these have come to light through RTI applications.
