World Breastfeeding Week : Babina Hospital hosts closing function

The closing function of World Breastfeeding Week 2026 was hosted by Babina Hospital, Khabeisoi on Friday.
The programme was organised by the Breastfeeding Promotion Alliance of Manipur (BPAM) in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch (IMA-MSB), Imphal Obstetric and Gynaecological Society (IOGS), Paediatric Association of Manipur (PAM), and Trained Nurses' Association of India, Manipur State Branch (TNAI MSB) .
Held under the global theme "Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works", the event highlighted breastfeeding as a key intervention for maternal and child health.

Dr Th Dhabali, Chairman and Managing Director, BABINA Group of Companies, graced the function as chief guest.
Dr A Ibotombi Sharma, President, BPAM, presided over the programme, while Dr James Elangbam, Secretary, BPAM, and Dr Shyamkumar Laishram, Medical Superintendent, BABINA Hospital, attended as guests of honour.
Delivering a technical session, Dr Sushmita Haodijam, Assistant Consultant, Paediatrics, BABINA Hospital, stressed early initiation of breastfeeding and cautioned against prelacteal feeds, stating they increase infection risk and hinder breastfeeding.
She also underlined the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and continued breastfeeding up to two years with timely complementary feeding.
Speakers called for family support, sustained awareness, and coordinated efforts by health professionals, policymakers and communities to create an enabling environment for mothers.
