Relief committee submits memorandum to CM

The Relief Committee Manipur submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Biren Singh today highlighting the urgent needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the State.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club, Thoidingjam Bon Khurai, chief coordinator, Relief Committee Manipur emphasized the needs of the IDPs for immediate Government intervention.
He stated that many key issues have been outlined in the memorandum, including i) cessation of violence, ii) fair remuneration for IDPs living in relief camps, iii) fair compensation and transparency in resettlement and rehabilitation process, iv) establishment of a guest house in Imphal area for patients, pregnant women and student IDPs from remote areas, v) provision for free OPD services and essential laboratory tests for IDP patients, vi) issuance of CMHT cards for IDPs at hospitals in Assam, particularly in Silchar, to benefit those in Jiribam relief camps, vii) waiving admission and hostel fees for IDP students in schools and colleges and viii) implementation of job reservation policies for IDPs in both Government and private institutions.
The memorandum has called for the resolution of these issues at the earliest to improve the living conditions and prospects of IDPs in Manipur, Bon Khurai maintained.
