Under Monsang Naga customary law, the Sirti Upa Ruh/Monsang Tribe Union (MTU) and United Committee, Pallel (UCP) have arrived at an understanding/agree-ment after holding negotiations on November 4 and 6 at Sur Hall (Ng Mono Monsang Memorial Hall, Japhou) concerning the physical assault of Monsang student leaders on the night of October 30.Ng Benithan, president, MTU and Moirangthem Jiban, convenor of UCP represented the victims' families and culprits' families respectively.
The negotiation and agreement was carried out under the initiative of MTU who invited the families of the accused in the Customary Court of MTU with the spirit to maintain peace and tranquility between the two parties and communities.
It was agreed that no such accident be allowed to continue or happen in the future.
It added that the agreement must be maintained and respected in letter and spirit for peace and tranquility between the two communities (Nagas & Meeteis) living together in the region as good neighbours and brothers.
MTU and UCP have expressed their gratitude to the State Police, particularly Kakching Police Station, for their timely intervention and arresting the culprits involved.
Further, thanking the CSOs for condemning the incident, the two organisations have urged the concerned authority to deliver justice.
