Imphal, July 06 2026:
Alleging irregularities, potential room for nepotism and corruption in CAUs recruitmentprocess, the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has urged the authorities to streamline the process and ensure conformity with its rules.
The Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal has in the recent weeks issued a slew of notifications, changing mode of examinations at whim and postponing examination for recruitment it notified in 2025 - all raising serious suspicion about possible nepotism and corruption, AMSU said in a statement.
The Central Agricultural University (CAU) had issued two advertisements on August 8, 2025 and November 7, 2025 for recruitment to fill various vacancies including dozens of posts of Assistant Professors for 57 disciplines.
In the notifications, the mode of selection was given as presentation/seminar/interview or all.
However, in a later notification issued recently on June 2, 2026, CAU notified that written examinations will be held for 12 of the disciplines, and started the interview process for the remaining 45 disciplines, AMSU said.
While the recruitment for 12 disciplines through a written examination followed by further evaluation through interview was expected to be conducted in the 3rd/4th week of June, it was postponed again through a notification issued on June 27, 2026, AMSU added.
In the midst of all this, CAU had also issued a notification on June 23, 2026 for fresh recruitment of 3 vacant posts of Assistant Professor, one each for disciplines including Genetics & Plant Breeding, Animal Nutrition and Vegetable Sciences.
For this recruitment, the mode of selection was given as interview, added AMSU.
Adopting different modes of selection for the same discipline, posts which fall under similar category and level raises serious suspicion of potential practice of nepotism and corruption, and the university undermining its ordinance and sanctity, AMSU said.
Asserting that the CAU's conduct has caused grievances and affected aspirants, AMSU said the university authorities must rectify and streamline the recruitment process.
Following the CAU Ordinance 2023, the university must conduct the recruitment in a time-bound manner and make the mode of election uniform.
The recruitment for 12 disciplines must also be held the same as that of 45 disciplines by revoking the notifications issued related to conduct of written examination for the select disciplines, AMSU said.
AMSU will continue to pay special attention to the recruitment process and if necessary, it will approach the Visitor of the university, the Ministry of Agriculture, it added.
