Govt committed to youth welfare: Biren

Imphal, May 06 2018: Chief Minister N Biren has asserted that his Government is fully prepared to take up all possible measures for the welfare of the State's youth.

Speaking at a Yuva Shakti Sanmelan organised by the Bharatia Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) at the City Convention Centre here today, N Biren said, "It is a universal fact that youth are future pillars of any Nation.

Our youth would determine the future of the country as well as the State." The Government will work relentlessly to fulfil all legitimate demands made youth for the welfare of the society and the State, Biren assured.

Soon after its establishment, the incumbent declared 'war' against drugs.

A large number of drug smugglers were arrested and huge quantities of drugs were seized during the past one year.

To deal with drug cases promptly and exclusively, a fast track ND&PS Court has been set up.

The Government has launched an initiative of replacing poppy cultivation with lemon grass agarwood and horticultural crops, Biren said.

Another fast track Court which deals with cases of violence against women exclusively has been opened and around 15 persons were punished for violence against women' during the past one year.

Claiming that the State is now marching forward, Biren said that the hill-valley distrust has been largely addressed following the Government's Go to Hills Mission.

In line with the same initiative, Go to Village Mission was launched on May 1 .

The Chief Minister then advised BJYM volunteers to use social media positively and highlight all the activities of the BJP-led Government to the masses.

Informing that the Chief Secretary has been instructed to set up a flood related committee, Biren asked BJYM volunteers to go to all flood affected areas and identify the causes.

The State Government has already launched a Start-up Policy and Rs 25 crore has been earmarked for the same purpose.

Altogether 500 applications were received for assistance through the Startup Policy.

The Central Government has already given consent to raising two IRB battalions.

The State Cabinet would hold a meeting shortly and recruitment process would be initiated, he informed the gathering.

The recruitment process would be conducted strictly in accordance with rules and the Government is considering about telecasting the physical test live, Biren said.

BJYM National president and Lok Sabha MP Poonam Mahajan said that the North East region stayed aloof from BJP and development for a prolonged period.

"As a resident of Mumbai, I never believed that BJP would enjoy such massive support in Manipur which is known for its rich culture and traditions", Poonam Mahajan said.

Saying that Mary Kom, Sanjita and Mirabai are pride of the Nation, the MP remarked that Manipuri women are stronger and more persevering than women of other regions of the country.

She also expressed keen desire for development of the INA Museum, Moirang as a museum of international standard.

The country is free today because Netaji Subashchandra Bose sacrificed his life, she said.

The country would celebrate the 75th anniversary of independence in 2022 and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already declared that this historic event would herald a new chapter in the country's history, Poonam Mahajan said.

The conference was also attended by Works Minister Th Biswajit, Education Minister Th Radheshyam, HAC Chairman TT Haokip, MLAs Oinam Lukhoi, Y Surchandra and BJYM State president P Somorjit.
