Imphal, October 05 2025: An essay competition will be held on October 12, 2025 in commemoration of the 68th birth anniversary of Irengbam Chaoren.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Irengbam Chaoren Memorial Trust secretary Huidrom Sanjoy appealed to all students to participate in the essay competition.

The essay competition on the topic "Political status of Manipur, 1947-1949" would be divided into category A and category B .

Students reading in standard VIII to X may join the competition in category A .

Category B is for students reading in class XI and above.

University graduates may also join the competition, Sanjoy said.

He said that the competition will be held at Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur and Catholic School, Canchipur.

The top three winners of the essay competition will be awarded cash prizes of Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

Moreover, 10 other best participants will be awarded consolation prize of Rs 3000 each.

Word limit for category A is 1000 while it is 2000 words for category B, Sanjoy said.

He said that the Irengbam Chaoren Memorial Trust is organising the essay competition considering the importance for students and younger students to understand the past political status of Manipur.

He said that entry forms for the essay competition may be obtained from the office of Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF).

The birth anniversary of Irengbam Chaoren will be observed on November 2 but the time and place will be notified later, he added.
