Over 500 bottles of IMFL seized

Police seized 519 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from Imphal Airport today based on information provided by the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) .
DESAM, meanwhile, said that its volunteers seized the large consignment of liquor, which was brought in around 90 pieces of luggage at the airport.
The seized items which were brought on a Delhi-Imphal IndiGo flight have been handed over to Singjamei police for initiating legal proceedings.
According to police, the seized liquor include 54 bottles of Jack Daniel's (750ml), 60 bottles of 750ml Smirnoff (Minty Jamun), 36 bottles of 750ml Smirnoff (Mirchi Mango), 141 bottles of Jameson Whiskey (750ml), 25 bottles of Jameson Whiskey (200ml), nine bottles of Monkey Shoulder Whiskey (750ml), seven bottles of Black Label Whiskey (750ml), 4 bottles of Irish Smith Whiskey (750ml), 22 bottles of Bushkill Whiskey (750ml), 15 bottles of The Glenlivet (750ml), 24 bottles of Johnnie Walker (750ml), 40 bottles of Absolut Vodka (750ml), 12 bottles of Cotton Mouth Wine (750ml), 14 bottles of Jacob's Creek Wine (750ml), 11 bottles of Red Label Whiskey (750ml), 12 bottles of Singleton Whiskey (750ml), 12 bottles of Glenfiddich Whiskey (750ml), six bottles of Blue Label Whiskey (750ml), 12 bottles of Glenmorangie Whiskey (750ml) and three bottles of Indri (60ml) .
Police said that 15 persons (six men and nine women) were detained in connection with the seizure.
DESAM Secretary (Anti-Drug and Abuse) Ningthoukhongjam Nobin questioned how such a large quantity of liquor was brought to Imphal by air, asking whether airport officials had allowed it to pass unchecked.
Saying that substance abuse and alcoholism have been serious concerns in the State for a long time, he appealed to all concerned to refrain from engaging in activities that could jeopardise the future of the State for personal profit.
