The indefinite general strike called by the Manipur Anganwadi Mahila Organisation, Thoubal Branch in Thoubal district has come into effect since 5 am today.
According to a press release issued by the organisation, the general strike is being called in protest against the stay order given to CDPO of Thoubal ICDS Project N Satyabhama who has been reportedly already transferred.
They further accused the CDPO of embezzling public money besides being an irresponsible and incompetent officer.
The organisation has been protesting against the CDPO for many irregularities including holding back honorarium due to Anganwadi workers/helpers, it informed.
It also decried the act of Thoubal district police personnel charging and dispersing Anganwadi workers and helpers who were blocking roads today.
In case the Government fails to fulfil the demand of the Anganwadi workers and helpers by November 5, State-wide agitation of various sorts will be launched in collaboration with relevant State level organisations, it warned.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Anganwadi Mahila Organisation (MAMO) has threatened to call indefinite Statewide bandh from November 6 if the concerned authority fails to bring an amicable solution to the issue surrounding the CDPO of Thoubal ICDS Project.
Appealing to the authority to resolve the issue of Thoubal ICDS Project in a just manner, MAMO decried the delay in delivering justice to the demand to penalise the officer involved in swindling a large amount of money meant for the people of Thoubal district, conveyed a release.
