Imphal, November 03: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Gaikhangam has called upon all the party workers to take up the responsibility of making the people to understand the role being played by the Congress party not only for the development of the country but also in safeguarding the integrity and unity of the country.

Addressing party workers during a one-day block level Congress Workers' Conference organised by Saitu Block Congress Committee at Bungte Chiru village of Sadar Hills today, Gaikhangam said Congress is an well-organised political party which understands the pulses of the people.

The fact that chiefs/leaders of different villages came to participate in the conference only goes to show that people have faith on the party, he said.

With election of the State Assembly round the corner, many self-styled public leaders and politicians would come about to lure the people.

So it is upto the people to judiciously decide who and which party should be elected to power, Gaikhangam said, adding frequent change of elected representative from a particular Assembly Constituency would not auger well.

No political party other than Congress would be able to protect the unity and integrity of Manipur and the interest of its people, Gaikhangam said.

MLA of Saitu Assembly Constituency Ngamthang Haokip, who is also the advisor to Chief Minister said the forthcoming election is going to be an important test.

The prospect of winning in the election would not be decided simply on the basis of whether the candidates carry out developmental works or not, he added.
