Daughters, dad die as car plunges into pond

Imphal, January 03 2023: In a tragic incident, a man and his two minor daughters lost their lives when the car (red Maruti 800) they were travelling in plunged into a pond at Samurou along Mayai Lambi road under Wangoi police station last night.

The accident took place last night at around 8.30 while the deceased Kongkham Jayanta along with his two daughters were returning home at Uchiwa Mayai Leikai.

The deceased have been identified as Kongkham Jayanta (47) and his two daughters Kongkham Abe (7) and Kongkham Bijubala (4) .

Reportedly, the car in which they were travelling suddenly lost control and skidded into the pond at Samurou.

The vehicle sank in the pond with the three occupants.

Soon after, a large number of locals and Wangoi police rushed to the spot and attempted to rescue the occupants.

It is further reported that the two girls died on the spot while the father was taken to a nearby Primary Health Centre for treatment.

As the condition of Kongkham Jayanta deteriorated he was again taken to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences but succumbed to his injuries at the hospital at around 3.30 am today.

The corpses have been handed over to family members after autopsies at RIMS morgue.
