Zoological Garden celebrates golden jubilee

The Manipur Zoological Garden celebrated its golden jubilee and 72nd Wildlife Week today.
Floral tribute at the zoo's inauguration plaque, felicitation of meritorious students and staff marked the observance.
Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) Longjam Joykumar said that the Manipur Zoological Garden was established on October 2, 1976 .
For the duration of the Wildlife week, entry fee to the zoo will be free, he added.
Manipur Zoological Garden Director L Biramangol spoke on different initiatives launched by the zoo and said that the Langol Sangai Conservation and Breeding Centre is one of the notable projects that has helped conserve Sangai.
The zoo is also implementing a project to conserve the State bird, Mrs Hume's pheasant, he added.
Winners of essay, quiz and painting competitions held as part of the golden jubilee were feted with prizes.
