NE India receives only 8.5% of Centre's total Rs 1.01 lakh crore fund release

Agartala, October 02 2025: The Union Government's release of Rs 1,01,603 crore as additional tax devolution on October 1 saw Northeast Indian states collectively receive Rs 8668 crore, led by Assam with Rs 3178 crore, even as States like Uttar Pradesh (Rs 18,227 crore) and Bihar (Rs 10,219 crore) alone outpaced the entire region.

According to the Finance Ministry's state-wise breakup, Arunachal Pradesh received Rs 1785 crore, Manipur Rs 727 crore, Meghalaya Rs 779 crore, Mizoram Rs 508 crore, Nagaland Rs 578 crore, Tripura Rs 719 crore, and Sikkim Rs 394 crore.

Together, the eight North Eastern States accounted for 8.5 per cent of the total amount released.

In comparison, the mainland States received the bulk share of Rs 92,935 crore.

Uttar Pradesh alone topped the list with Rs 18,227 crore, followed by Bihar with Rs 10,219 crore, Madhya Pradesh with Rs 7976 crore, and West Bengal with Rs 7644 crore.

Other major allocations included Maharashtra at Rs 6418 crore, Rajasthan at Rs 6123 crore, and Odisha at Rs 4601 crore.

"In view of the upcoming festive season and to enable States to accelerate capital spending and finance their development and welfare-related expenditure, the Union Government has released an additional tax devolution of Rs 1,01,603 crore to State Governments on 1 st October 2025, in addition to the normal monthly devolution due to be released on 1 Oth October 2025," the ministry said.
