Imphal, July 02 2025: Manipur police have arrested a top leader of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF-J) along with one loaded 9mm pistol from the vicinity of Kekrupat in Imphal West last night at around 7.30 .

The arrested person has been identified as Namgaklun Kamei @ November (42), s/o Miusin Kamei of Chingkhonglong Village in Tamenglong.

The accused reportedly disclosed during questioning that he had been the self-styled deputy chief of army of the outfit since 2017, operating under one Jenchui Kamei.

He allegedly admitted to extorting money from transport vehicles on key routes, including Imphal-Jiribam and Imphal-Dimapur roads, to raise funds for the outfit.

Namgaklun Kamei has been sent to police custody till July 8 by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today.

He was produced before the Court by a team of Imphal police personnel.

The police sought a 7-day custodial remand during the hearing to interrogate the accused, probe his role in criminal activities, gather intelligence on the organization, and arrest his accomplices linked to the case.

The Court after hearing the submission of the prosecutor and on perusal of the case record remanded Namgaklun Kamei to police custody till July 8 .
