AMSU questions appopintment of Director

Imphal, June 01 2026: The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has questioned the appointment of Dean of School of Education, MU, Professor Premlata Maisnam as "Director" to oversee 4-years Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) .

There is no post such as "Director" in the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) rules and regulations.

The appointment of the Professor to such a non-existent post is a gross violation of the rules, said AMSU in a statement.

The association said the appointment for a period of 3 years was made by the Registrar in an order on May 4, 2026 .

Further, the Dean of School of Education, who is also the Head of Department of Education has also been in-charge of the Department of Teacher Education.

Her heading the Department of Teacher Education when there are many eligible Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors in the department has also been questioned by the Manipur University Students' Union, said AMSU .

The Manipur University authority should review the appointment and take up appropriate steps to resolve the issue.

It must also take up measures to avoid further controversies, AMSU said.
