A historic one day consultation/gathering of Kamo Tangkhul people represented by village chiefs/headmen, Church and youth leaders as well as social workers from the whole of 158 Kamo Tangkhul villages residing in Ukhrul, Senapati and Chandel districts was held on May 28 at Phungyar sub-divisional headquarters.
The day long gathering organised under the aegis of Aze & Zingso Tangkhul Naga Longphang adopted a number of recommendations including in the issue of Indo-Naga peace process, the recent Dimapur mayhem and to appeal for sanity and development in the region.
On the Indo-Naga peace process, the gathering upheld the ongoing negotiations for solving the Naga political imbroglio and reposed confidence on the collective leadership.
Urging armed splinter groups to desist from all activities that could sabotage the hard-earned peace with the mandate of the Naga people, the meet also expressed grave concern over the recent killing of innocent Tangkhul civilians at Dimapur.
Expressing deep concern on the formation of NPCM it had been resolved to appeal to all concerned to desist from arm confrontation amongst the Tangkhul brethren in particular and the nagas in general.
Moreover, NPCM has been urged to return to the mainstream in the interest of the Naga national movement.
The public gathering that also had indepth deliberation on culture and traditions of the Kamo Tangkhul people strongly advocated necessary measures to scheme a common platform for renaissance of the rich culture and traditions of the Kamo Tangkhuls.
Regarding development of the region, it had been recommended that development programmes of Aze & Zingsho/Kamo area be implemented through the work agents/contractors of 'these areas' for effective and result-oriented execution of all Government sponsored welfare schemes.
Besides deciding that development programmes will be closely monitored by Aze & Zingsho Longphang, the gathering called upon the 'National Workers' against involvement or interfering in such programmes.
It is recommended that for the sake of administrative convenience for the Kamo-Tangkhul people residing near the Myanmar border the Aze & Zingsho Tangkhul Naga Longphang would be entrusted to do the needful for creation of a new district in the near future, added a joint statement of Tangkhul Naga Zingsho Longphang and Tangkhul Aze Longphang.
Moreover, the session also noted need for establishing a border trade centre on the line of International Border Trade Centre at Aze/Zingsho areas bordering Myanmar.
