Lup demands compensation to crisis-hit farmers

Moirang Kendra Apunba Loumi Sinmi Amashung Nupi Lup on Thursday organised a meeting demanding early payment of the compensation amount released by the central government in 2023 for farmers of the state affected by the ethnic violence.
In a statement, the association said that the meeting was attended by Lup vice president Oinam Ingotomba Singh, advisor L Shyamkumar Singh, secretary Salam Renubala, vice president Wangkhem Sarda and Moirang sub-division Pradhan members as presidium members.
During the meeting, the participants unanimously agreed to urge the Bishnupur DC to take necessary measures to ensure the early release the pending compensation amount.
The district has been severely impacted, with around 3000 acres of agricultural land left untended due to ethnic violence, as well as the destruction of over 8 lakh bags of paddy by Kuki militants.
The Lup also called for release of compensation earmarked for the year 2024 .
In addition to pressing the DC, the meeting resolved to approach the Governor, chief secretary and consult with the COCOMI Farmer Wing for addressing grievances of the affected farmers.
