The Supreme Court has issued a notice to BJP MLA Karam Shyam returnable in eight weeks.
The apex Court issued the notice in connection with a civil appeal filed by veteran politician and former MLA Okram Joy.
A division bench comprising Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Vijay Bishnoi passed an order on August 19 to issue a notice to the respondent (MLA Karam Shyam) returnable within eight weeks.
Speaking to media persons at his residence at Kakwa today, Okram Joy said that he filed an election petition at the High Court of Manipur in 2022 in connection with the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections held in 2022 .
After hearing the petition along with an election recrimination petition, the High Court disposed of the case on July 14 this year.
Okram Joy said that he filed a civil appeal at the Supreme Court as he was not satisfied with the High Court's judgement.
The veteran politician said that he filed the election petition against his rival candidate for allegedly furnishing wrong information through Form-26 (affidavit) regarding immovable assets, educational qualification and concealment of criminal cases.
Joy said that he filed a civil appeal at the Supreme Court as he was of the view that the High Court's judgement needed a review.
