Imphal, October 28 2013: Even though the 36 hour general strike called against the murder of excavator operator/driver Maisnam Devraj had little impact and was largely concentrated in Khurai area, the house of one of the accused was dismantled by an angry mob at Langol Ningthou Leikai today at about 9 am today.

T Babu is a native of Thanga but he shifted to Langol Ningthou Leikai.

However, a press release issued by the Laimanai Apunba Nupi Lup clarified that Tongbram Babu is not a resident of Langol Laimanai.

It also condemned the murder of Devraj in the strongest term.

On the other hand, taking due cognizance of appeals/suggestions from different quarters, especially in view of the upcoming Kut Festival on November 1 and Ningol Chakkouba on November 5, the JAC has decided to cut short the general strike to 24 hours, which means, it will end by 5 am tomorrow.

The general strike had little impact in major commercial centres of Imphal including Khwairamband market.

Yet the general strike is being imposed in full force in Khurai area and along Imphal-Ukhrul road.

Apart from blocking road in Khurai area, general strike supporters came up to Palace Compound and blocked the roads there for a brief period before they were driven back by police.

Bandh supporters also came to Khwairamband market in a bid to impose the general strike but 14 of them were apprehended by police along with the vehicles used by them.

Imphal-Moreh road was also blocked for a brief period at Singjamei.

On account of the general strike, Lamlong Keithel bore a deserted look and the usual gathering at Pureiromba Keithel of Konung Mamang was sparse.

Overall, the general strike has little impact on the normal life of the State except for Imphal-Ukhrul road, Pangei road and Khurai area.

Amidst the general strike, Chief Minister and some Ministers and MLAs went for a marriage ceremony through Khurai but no untoward incident occurred.

Meanwhile, house of Tongbram Babu alias Shyamchand s/o Biren, one of the main accused was dismantled by a mob at Langol Ningthou Leikai at around 9 am today.

Post mortem examination of Devraj's body was conducted at RIMS.

Excavator operator Maisnam Devraj of Khurai Sajor Leikai went missing along with one excavator belonging to Chanam Anilkumar of Singjamei Chanam Pukhri Mapal since October 14 until he was found dead and buried at Saichang along Imphal-Jiirbam highway on October 26 .
