Imphal, June 27 2024:
The Consumers' Club, Manipur has accused the Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPDCL) of cheating the consumers and aggravating the woes of the people amid the unrest in Manipur.
The Consumer's Club, in a statement, claimed that MSPDCL has been fraudulently deducting 20 per cent when recharging electricity from many consumers citing outstanding due since the last few months.
Alleging that they have witnessed such fraudulence in areas covered by Imphal Electricity Division 2-Lamphel and Imphal Electrical Division-3 Kakwa, it added that the same deduction may have been encountered by consumers in other places too.
It went on to claim that MSPDCL is aware of the deduction but hasn't done or said anything about the issue.
Seeking clarification from MSPDCL over the issue, the Consumer's Club added that MSPDCL should refund the deducted amount within 7 days.
It also said that all erring officials should be booked if it is a case of fraudulence and not technical problem.
Saying that fraudulently deducting money from consumers is a violation of Consumers Protection Act, 2019, it cautioned that they will take up a legal course of action if MSPDCL ignores their warning.
