Death of Pitaranjan JAC calls 24 hrs bandh

Imphal, April 27 2016: To pile the pressure on the State Government to deliver justice in the death of B Pitaranjan alias Korabin, the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of B Pitaranjan (Korabin) has imposed a 24 hour State bandh with effect from 6 am of April 28 till 6 am of April 29.Simultaneously the JAC has also decided not to claim the body until and unless the killers are booked.

The JAC also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister to take the matter to its logical conclusion.

A six member team of the JAC also met the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister today wherein the JAC demanded immediate arrest of the killers.

Appealing the public to extend their co-operation, the JAC in a statement said that Bachaspatimayum Pitaranjan (Korabin) Sharma (22) son of B Shantikumar Sharma of Nongmeibung, Old Checkon bazar left home to visit a friend (a girl) at Kangkum village in Ukhrul district on April 19 morning.

On April 22, the family members of the friend informed the family members of Pitaranjan at about 2 pm that he left the village on April 21 at about 8 am and inquired whether he had reached home.

On hearing this, the family members of Pitaranjan grew suspicious and the following day (April 23) an elder brother, B Prabin Sharma, went to Kangkum village, said the JAC.

At the village, Prabin Sharma was informed by the father of the girl that they have looked all over the place for Pitaranjan but could not trace him.

When the elder brother suggested that they again search for his younger brother, the family members of the girl suggested that he (Prabin) rest for a while as he had just reached the village and volunteered to look for Pitaranjan instead.

The search party returned at around 7 pm the same day and narrated that Pitaranjan could not be traced though they had searched far and wide, said the JAC.

The family members then suggested that they look for Pitaranjan after Church service the next day with other villagers.

However no sign of launching a search was seen and when Prabin brought this up he was told that the villagers had to prepare for a wedding that day and instead asked him to search for his younger brother.

While on the way to Panomram village, Prabin saw the shirt worn by his younger brother by the road side, said the JAC and added that under the shirt he found his brother's mobile handset, money and a lip gel.

On further searching the nearby thick undergrowth, he found the lifeless body of his younger brother, said the JAC.

Later the village authority of Kangkum alleged that Pitaranjan had committed suicide and made Prabin sign a letter head and extracted a fine from him.

Debunking the suicide allegation, the JAC pointed out that the body of Pitaranjan bore multiple injury marks, severe head injuries and numerous foot prints near the place where the body was found, suggesting that the body may have been put there after he was killed.

Demanding that all those involved in the killing of Pitaranjan be brought to book, the JAC urged the people to extend all co-operation.

In the meantime, the girl for whom Pittaranjan allegedly came to Kangkum village and her father have been pulled up for interrogations by the police, sources said.
