BRIC-IBSD organises women entrepreneurship development programme

Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), an institute under the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC), Department of Biotechnology, Government of India organised a programme on "Bioeconomy from Bioresources:Developing Women Entrepreneurship" at Imphal.
According to a release issued by IBSD, Governor Anusuiya Uikey graced the programme as the chief guest and distributed machines & other accessories to various women entrepreneurs from different parts of Imphal.
The Governor appreciated the research activities and various initiatives of IBSD for the promotion of bioresources of NER and development of bioeconomy of the region.

She applauded different activities of IBSD in thrust areas for the promotion and development of bioresources including phytopharmaceutical mission, ethnopharmacology, traditional healthcare, wild mushrooms & insects, traditional fermented foods, medicinal plants resources and microbial resources.
She mentioned that IBSD is working for women entrepreneurship development through various scientific interventions, skill development programmes and outreach activities in NER.
The Governor appreciated the activities under BioNEST incubator for the development of women bio-entrepreneurship through Orchids floriculture in Meghalaya.
She also congratulated IBSD for taking such initiatives for the development of women entrepreneurs in the state of Manipur.
Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director, IBSD, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the research and outreach activities performed by the Institute for the development of bioeconomy from bioresources.
He highlighted several bioresources of NER which are being explored by IBSD for documentation, scientific evaluation and development of products/ processes/ technologies.
He highlighted that IBSD is working on a phytopharmaceutical mission for ethnobotany and ethnopharmacological perspectives of medicinal plants including their cultivation, promotion, value addition and chemical profiling, and promotion of start-ups based on development of herbal medicinal products.
Prof Mukherjee also shared that IBSD is involved in a number of outreach activities to ensure that the fruits of its research reach the common people of this region.
"IBSD has established a BioNEST incubator for the development of women bio-entrepreneurs through Orchid floriculture and benefited more than 100 women in Meghalaya.
IBSD is organising many outreach activities for farmers, traditional healers, women entrepreneurs of NER to promote Bioeconomy from Bioresources, programmes for promoting local bioresources among school/ college students of NER", he added.
"In this context, IBSD has organized International Bioresource Conclave to showcase the different bioresources, local traditional medicines of NER, participated in G20 event on Research and Innovation Initiative Gathering (RIIG) for Circular Bio-economy to highlight the various initiatives of the institute for the promotion of bioresources and development of Bioeconomy of NER", he asserted.
Dr Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, conveyed that CAU and IBSD can work together to explore local bioresources of the region.
Hungyo Worshang, Secretary, Science & Technology, Government of Manipur mentioned that women are an integral part of the society and play an important role in connecting societies and communities in NER.
During the event, Biswadeep Gupta, MD, KRC Foundation along with other women entrepreneurs expressed their views and thanked the Governor and Director of IBSD for providing support and necessary skill development.
Scientists, scholars, officers, staff from IBSD and more than 150 women from different parts of Imphal participated in the programme.
