Imphal, June 26 2021: Rejecting the proposal of the Government to cover Tharon village of Thangmeiband under Imphal Ring Road project, a sit-in protest was staged today at Tharon village community hall.

The protest demonstration was organised by Tharon Village Authority, Thangmeiband.

Speaking to media persons, one of the protesters, Athon Gangmei said that Tharon village was set up during the time of King Meidingu Lam Kyamba (1512-1523 AD) near Cheiraoching.

Saying that Tharon village is a testament to the brotherly relationship between the hills and valley people, he said that part of the State's history will be lost if the project indeed passes through their village.

The proposal of the Government to cover Tharon village in the Imphal Ring Road project is condemnable, he said and appealed to the Government to withdraw the proposal in the larger interest of the people of Tharon village.

He cautioned that they will launch intense agitations if their demand is not heeded.

During the protest, placards reading "No road through our home", "No forced eviction" etc were displayed.
