Training on "Climate-Smart Pulse Production Technologies for Food & Nutrition Security" held

The ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, successfully organised a 1 -day training programme on "Climate-Smart Pulse Production Technologies for Food and Nutrition Security" at the Loktak Farmers' Hostel, Lamphelpat today.
The programme was sponsored by ICAR-IIPR, Kanpur under the NEH Programme "Promotion of Pulses in NEH Region" .
A total of 34 farmers, comprising 7 women and 27 men, participated in the training aimed at strengthening their knowledge of sustainable and climate-resilient pulse production practices.
The programme was coordinated under the leadership of Dr N Anando Singh, Senior Scientist (Agronomy), who served as course director of the training.
In the inaugural session, Dr Ch Basudha Devi, Head of Regional Centre (HRC), highlighted the importance of such programmes in equipping farmers with scientific skills, improving pulse productivity, and promoting food and nutritional security across the region.
Dr Anando delivered a technical lecture on "Pest Complex of Pulses and Their Management", emphasizing major pest challenges and climate-smart management strategies.
Dr Arati Ningombam, Senior Scientist (Entomology), discussed eco-friendly and integrated pest management approaches tailored for pulse crops under variable climatic conditions.
Dr T Basanta, Scientist (Soil Science), spoke on the importance of soil health, nutrient management, and soil conservation practices in enhancing the productivity and sustainability of pulsebased farming systems.
As part of the programme, high-quality seeds of lentils, chickpeas, and green peas were distributed to the farmers, covering a total cultivation area of 30 hectares.
Participants also received biofertilizers including Rhizobium and Phosphate-Solubilising Bacteria (PSB) to support improved soil fertility, nutrient uptake, and overall crop performance.
The training concluded with the distribution of certificates to all participants, acknowledging their successful completion of the programme.
The initiative reflected ICAR's commitment to supporting farmers in the Northeast through scientific interventions, advanced technologies, and quality agricultural inputs that enhance resilience, productivity, and long-term food and nutritional security.
