Newly appointed executives of All Manipur Arts and Culture Student's Union (AMACSU) have taken charge from today.
A programme entitled, the 6th Ngashigee Nachom was held at JN Manipur Dance Academy to mark the day.
JN Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) Director Dilip Mayengbam and AMACSU President Bisanta Kshetrimayum were the chief guest and president of the function.
JNMDA (Tribal Dept) Guruhan RH Daikho Mao, Manipur State Kala Akademy Assistant Secretary S Vedeshwor Sharma and Art and Culture Department Director W Mera Singh were also present as guests of honour.
Names of the newly appointed functionaries and members of AMACSU were announced in today's function.
Bisanta Kshetrimayum and A Modhusudon Sharma have been appointed as President and Vice-President of the students body.
Dilip Mayengbam while speaking in the function said that the present generation not only need to discuss the culture and tradition but also educate the younger people on history and tradition of the State.
Saying that culture is the identity of a society, Dilip Mayengbam added that the age-old traditions of the State must be preserved at all cost.
In order to promote its unique identity, the State must encourage teaching of martial arts like other developed nations, he added.
The Director also stressed on the need to include 'History and Culture' as a subject in the academic syllabus of Class-I to Class X.Guruhan RH Daikho while speaking in the function said that even though the forefathers did not have academic knowledge, they created the tradition and culture of the land and it has become the identity of the State.
Delivering his speech, S Vedeshwor Sharma expressed concern that the State is losing its culture and tradition.
