Training programme on poultry management, livestock insurance kicks off

A 3-day farmers' training programme on "Poultry Management, Scientific Rearing of Pig and Livestock Insurance" kicked off today at Thoubal Achouba Keithel Makha community hall.
The Joint Director, District Veterinary Office Thoubal/Kakching organised the farmers' training programme under the aegis of National Livestock Mission (NLM) as a part of the series of training programmes held for the welfare of farmer community.
The inaugural programme was graced by retired Assistant Director of SAI Imphal Konsam Michael; retired Joint Director of Veterinary Department.
Dr Maibam Rajendra and retired District Transport Officer Mutum Mani as the presidium members.
Speaking as the chief guest, Konsam Michael appealed to all to avail the benefits of various welfare schemes of the Government in generating a regular source of income so as to become self reliant.
He expressed that the local MLAs, local clubs and elected representatives of local bodies should take up key roles in efficient implementation of these people's welfare schemes and strive collectively to achieve the vision of a self-reliant society in terms of food production.
District Veterinary Office Thoubal, Joint Director Dr P Gojendro while speaking about the objectives of organising the farmers' training programme, said that it is being held to raise awareness among the farmers about the benefits of livestock insurance so that they can focus on livestock rearing without any worry about the loss to be incurred in times of epidemic or calamities.
As resource persons of the programme, retired Poultry Specialist Dr Kh Somendro Singh spoke on poultry farming; Veterinary Officer of Veterinary Hospital Serou Dr Y Geeta Devi spoke on selection of variety of pigs for livestock, suitable places for pig rearing and types of common swine diseases while Veterinary Officer Heirok Veterinary Hospital Dr Y Sovarani Devi enlightened the farmers on how to avail insurance benefits and payment of insurance premium.
It may be noted that around 200 people attended today's training programme.
