The first four day general conference of the Lamkang Naga Women's Union (LNSL) kicked off at Mantripantha village, Chandel district today.
The main features of the general conference being participated by 36 Lamkang villages are interactive session on human rights, cultural programmes, beauty pageant and exhibition.
The inaugural function of the conference was graced by PHE Minister TN Haokip, IFC Minister N Biren and Social Welfare Minister N Loken as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Giving key note address of the inaugural function, LNSL president Olish Shilshi said that even though Lamkang is a small, backward ethnic group, they have been living together with other communities of Manipur in harmony since ages.
Highlighting the responsibility of women in the development of Lamkang group, Olish sought cooperation of women of other ethnic groups in their efforts for development and progress.
TN Haokip noted that every community of the State should promote and preserve the unique culture and tradition of each ethnic group.
He maintained that the plethora of crisis besetting the State can be solved only by the collective efforts of the women of Manipur.
In his address, N Loken called upon the womenfolk to strive towards restoration of peace in the State.
Later cultural dances were presented by different troupes followed by exhibition of traditional games.
