Antibiotic Resistance Awareness Week observed

Joining the rest of the world, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal observed world Antibiotic Resistance Awareness Week 2024 on the theme, "Preventing Antibiotic Resistance Together" .
The World Antibiotic Resistance Awareness Week is celebrated from November 18-24 every year to improve awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance.
The event held at the OPD Waiting Lounge of RIMS Hospital, Imphal was organised by Antibiotic Stewardship Committee, RIMS, Imphal.
According to a release issued by RIMS, the event underscored the urgent need for collective action to combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.
Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital inaugurated the week-long event and emphasized the critical need for action against antimicrobial resistance.
"Antibiotic resistance is not just a future threat but a present-day crisis.
This week is a reminder for all of us- health professionals, policymakers and citizens, to come together and take proactive steps to preserve the efficacy of antibiotics", he said.
Dr T Jeetenkumar Singh of the Medicine Department, RIMS, Imphal, highlighted the role of hygiene, vaccination, and early diagnosis in reducing dependency on antibiotics.
He called for the adoption of the One Health approach, integrating human, animal, and environmental health strategies to address antimicrobial resistance.
The week-long observance featured a series of impactful activities including Slogan Competition under the theme, "The rising menace of antimicrobial resistance: Our responsibility towards mitigating the global health emergency"; Awareness Programmes and Poster Campaign on WARAW-20024.Prizes and certificates were also distributed to the winners of the slogan competition.
The event was attended by the Deputy Director (Admn), RIMS, Principal, Dental College & College of Nursing.
